Canada Day Weekend

Being Canadian means so many different things to different people. From eating poutine in Quebec to fishing on the East-Coast and living in igloos in the north. We know how to live through some tough weather and a dip in a cold lake is nothing we can't take. We are a new generation of people who are dedicated and motived. We dream big and pursue our hearts. We are polite to most and love our Tim Hortons. It seems as though celebrating our great country isn't simply a one day event. For three days, I spent my time with people I adore creating unforgettable memories.

Saturday, the 29th of June, I spent my time with my best friends and my boyfriend's family. We had fun playing ring toss, eating great food and singing along to some awesome fiddle and guitar playing. We sat around the loft of a barn I had spent a few days cleaning with my boyfriend's grandmother, Sandy. I'm going to take a moment to thank her. She's an amazing woman who always has a smile and can make you laugh in any situation. She throws a good party and I hope there are many more to come. After some song and dance (mainly by Nick's mom, Kellie), we went outside to get some fireworks started. Now that was an interesting experience... Let's just say they weren't using the safest techniques, but everyone was entertained for the night.

Day 54
After that night, I spent the 30th of June with the same people at my friend's house. A nice surprise, one of my good friends from high school had just gotten back from a backpacking trip and came along for the party. Some good people, good food, good drinks and lots of laughs. Barbecue and swimming in the pool, and later a makeshift bar in the basement. People came and went and we had a blast all day. Of course, knowing there was going to be so many people, I decided against bringing my camera just incase it would get damaged so I don't have any images of this day. The memories will stay though and I had good fun with some great friends.

On Canada day, we headed out to Petrie Island to have a beach day and watch the fireworks. We started out with three of us, me, Nick and Nat.  Played some volleyball and football on the beach. Having some sandwiches and laughing as people stared at our failed attempt at making a volleyball court, we had some fun. After that, Nick's mom came along with her boyfriend and the two kids. She promptly began to wrestle with Nick but Jaiden would have none of it, he helped out his big brother by attacking his mother and bitting her leg! More fun was had as the toddler instantly got dirty in the sand and had two 30 second fits about wanting to go into the water. Shortly after, Sophie (my friend who'd gotten back from her trip the morning before), joined us with her two cousins. We began a volleyball tournament. Two other kids came and asked if they could play with us and in Canadian spirit, we invited them right in. After getting over volleyball, we played some football where other kids came and went into our games. After some time, we got some fries (some of the best fries I've ever had) and settled in to wait for the show. at 10:05pm I cuddled in close to my man, and we watched the show. The day was a success and we left happily with smiles on our faces.
